Dedicated May 30, 2009
The Garden of Heroes monument sits on the Southwest lawn of the Rhode Island State House.
It was created as the result of legislation submitted by former
Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Charles Fogarty in 2004 and dedicated Oct. 23, 2005 with the enshrinement of 14 original service members who were killed in action.
The garden is a fitting tribute to the courageous Rhode Islanders who have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedom that we hold dear.
The Garden of Heroes serves as a reminder to all who visit the State House of the bravery and sacrifice Rhode Islanders have made in defense of this great nation.
Unfortunately, the Garden of Heroes now has 21 names of Rhode Island service men and women who have died while serving our country since September 11, 2001.
